Alpan Gallery, A Short History by Lily Faust

Alpan Fine Arts was originally founded as Alpan Gallery in 1987 by Nese Alpan Karakaplan in Roslyn, New York. By the mid-1990s, the gallery's dynamic exhibition program, showcasing diverse talent, started gaining the attention of the local media and the New York Times, earning the gallery its reputation as the premier venue for contemporary art in Long Island.

In 2001, Alpan Gallery relocated to a larger exhibition space in Huntington, New York, with a broad spectrum of experimental art, installations, media art and thematic group shows.

In 2005, it was granted 501 (c) (3) non-profit status by the federal government. Its expanded program included lectures by Prof. Donald Cuspit, Prof. Arthur C. Danto and Helen Harrison; cooperation with the Long Island University, C.W. Post College, Adelphi University, and the Stony Brook University Art Gallery; internships; guest-curated shows; summer residencies, film screenings, and on-line artist registry. Increased media exposure and Alpan Gallery's unwavering efforts to interact with the art public brought the work of its artists to the attention of museums and collectors, effectively drawing a wide array of emerging and established visual artists from New York City and the world.

In 2010, after lengthy consideration, Nese Alpan Karakaplan decided to close Alpan Gallery, replacing it with a more personal vision: ALPAN FINE ARTS. Underlining contemporary perspectives, ALPAN FINE ARTS continues to promote the best in the visual arts, bridging the artist and the collector.
